Big B offers to be a brand ambassador of Gujarat
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has offered to become brand ambassador for Gujarat. On the sidelines of a special screening of his film ‘Paa’ with Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi at a multiplex in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, Big B told mediapersons, ‘There are lots of good things in Gujarat which should be promoted. I am ready to give my voice and face for the promotion of Gujarat tourism.’
On the day Samajwadi Party’s national general secretary Amar Singh resigned from all party posts, Bachchan, who is his friend and Uttar Pradesh’s former brand ambassador, said he was not aware of Singh’s resignation.
Bachchan said, ‘The main motive of my visit is to promote my film ‘Paa’ which deals with many sensitive issues and I wish Gujarat government makes the film tax free’.
Narendra Modi thanked Mr. Bachchan for his offer to promote Gujarat tourism and said Hindi films were a major influence on Indian society. Calling Big B the ‘Mahanayak’ of this phenomenon, Shri Narendra Modi said, ‘I myself am influenced by Mr. Bachchan, after all I am a common man’.
Big B, clad in black Jodhpuris, was very diplomatic when media asked him, ‘Do you think Modi is Big B of politics?’ He said, ‘I can’t compare myself with Shri Narendra Modi. Inke baare main kya bolu. (what can I say about this man )’ which left Shri Narendra Modi blushing. ‘He is doing a good job as a chief minister in Gujarat. His efforts are commendable,’ he said.
Sun Pictures acquires Vijay’s Sura
Much prior to Vijay’s ‘Vettaikaran’ hitting the screens, here is great news for the actor and his fans as well. Close sources have confirmed that Sun Pictures has shown keen interest in acquiring the rights of Vijay’s 50th film ‘Sura’.
‘Sura’ features Vijay and Thamannah in the lead roles and is directed by S.P. Rajkumar. The director S.P. Rajkumar is making his comeback in Kollywood taking a sabbatical after ‘Azhagar Malai’. First schedule of the film was recently completed and the entire crew is busily shooting for the following schedules in Pondicherry and Vizag.
According to the trade reports, ‘Vettaikaran’ has been sold out for a big price and it has gradually encouraged Sun Pictures to ink a deal with Vijay’s ‘Sura’ as well.
What the Stars have to offer in 2010?
Rajinikanth:With bunches of new artist landing up in Kollywood every year, our very own superstar still rules the heart of Tamilnadu. Well we are expecting the much awaited movie Endhiranthis year.
With the former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai paired opposite superstar, it would be a visual delight to see their on screen chemistry. With an whooping 150 crore budget, the stylish movie maker Shankar is directing this magnum opus.
Kamal Haasan: With Unnaipol Oruvan, Kamal has already proved why he one of India’s best known actor? Kamal Haasan will team up with ace director K.S Ravikumar for a comedy flick this year. There are also buzz that the Ulaganayagan will join hands with director Mysskin for a big budget venture.
Ajith: Well, we have much talked about it! Ajith’s Aasal will release early this year with Sameera Reddy and Bhavana playing the female leads. After that is much anticipated project of the era, the actor’s 50th movie, for which he will be teaming up with ace director Gautam Menon.
Vijay: With Vijay’s Vettaikaaran performing well at the box office, he has already started working on his 50th movie Sura directed by Rajkumar. There are also rumours that the actor will be teaming up with Jayam Raja for a movie titled Thalapati.
Vikram: Well the sensational actor is already on a high after the success of Kanthaswamy. Now Vikram has already started shooting for his next venture 24 with Vikram Kumar. Apart from that the much hyped movie with ace director Mani Ratnam - Raavan is on the post production stage and is expected to hit screen by June. Meanwhile Vikram will also team up with Selvaraghavan for another movie. He also turns producer for a Sasikumar film.
Suriya: After a successful 2009, Surya’s Singam will hit screens in the summer of 2010. The actor is also pretty excited on his upcoming big budget bio epic venture with bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma. The movie is titled as Raktha Charithra.
Dhanush: He is one of those actors who has a great line up for 2010. The much awaitedKutty, a remake of Telugu blockbuster Arya will hit the screens for Pongal. After that the actor has one more remake on the list, this time Ready, again a Telugu blockbuster. He also shooting for Maapillai and Aadukalam. Apart from that Dhanush will also team up with brother Selvaraghavan for a big budget venture.
Simbu: The much awaited Gautam Menon’s visual treat Vinnathandi Varuvaya is on the top of the list for Simbu, which will hit screen early this year. Later he will team up with K.V Anand for Ko opposite Tamannaah and his directorial project Valiban.
Stylish star Arya, after his much critically acclaimed Naan Kadavul and much hyped Sarvvamwill be seen for the first time with Nayantara in Boss Engira Naan, Chikku Bukku with Shriya and also a Telugu flick titled Varudu with Allu Arjun.
Versatile Jiiva has two releases; Kutcheri Aarambam and Singam Puli. He will also be teaming up with Shriya under his home banner.
2010 will also see the release of Theerada Vilayatu Pillai starring Vishal and Nootrukku Noorufrom Vinay. Apart from that Bharath will be seen in Thambikku Indha Ooru and Thritani.
Well looks like a great year ahead with some of then giving their best, we too hope that the stars shine like never before in this new year.
Surya’s Singam releasing on April!!!
Top commercial mass masala director Hari in an interaction with the media confirmed that his Suriya- Anushka big budget action entertainer Singam is 90 percent over.
Says Hari: “ The film is a typical Hari film which means all ingredients for a mass Tamil entertainer like action, comedy, songs, punchlines, sentiments and a moving story mixed together to provide a good time to the common man.”
Hari says the Suriya-Anushka pairing is going to be something new, Vivek’s comedy will make you laugh and Prakash Raj is the bad guy. The film produced by Gjnavel Raja for Studio Green has music by Devi Sri Prasad and will be a summer 2010 release in April.

Narendra Modi took charge of Gujarat when its economy was shrinking and the domestic growth was stagnant. Democracy or Else: voting compulsory in Gujarat state
A local editorial in favor of the law argues that with reduced voter participation, “the true spirit of the will of the people is not reflected in the electoral mandate”. The logic of the law, then, is that by forcing an increase in that voter share, you better approximate that “spirit of the will”. But will that actually make things any better? In any democracy you have to be an idealist, to believe in that magic aggregate with which your single vote will join and thus, together, make a difference. In India, with far greater dynamic range between rich and poor, it seems like the deliberations of the mighty are so far removed from the daily life experience of the average rickshaw wallah, that explaining how his vote will really matter seems a pointless excercise.
Why India needs Narendra Modi?
Let me begin with a set of disclosures: I have perhaps written more articles against Modi and his handling of the post-Godhra scenario than most people have; I have called him a modern-day Hitler and have always said that Godhra shall remain an enduring blemish not just on him but on India’s political class. I still believe that what happened in Gujarat during the Godhra riots is something we as a nation will pay a heavy price for. But the fact is that time has moved on. As has Narendra Modi. He is not the only politician in India who has been accused of communalism. It is strange that the whole country venerates the Congress Party as the secular messiah but it was that party that presided over the riots in 1984 in which over 3,500 Sikhs died: thrice the number killed in Gujarat.
The fact of the matter is that there is no better performer than Narendra Modi in India’s political structure. Three weeks ago, I had gone to Ahmedabad to address the YPO and I thought it would be a good opportunity to catch up with Modi.
